2014 RAM 1500 HEMI is America's Most Efficient V-8

Fuel economy ratings for the new 2014 RAM1500 are now available, and they're really blowing the truck's competitors off of the streets. Due to the truck's new 8-speed automatic transmission, it has the most efficient V-6 and V-8 engines available in the U.S.

The 2014 RAM 1500 currently comes with two engine choices: the standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine or a 5.7-liter HEMI V-8. A third engine, a six-cylinder EcoDiesel is scheduled to hit the lineup later this year. The fuel economy ratings for this diesel haven't yet been determined, but we do know the figures for the other engines when paired with both 6- and 8-speed automatic transmissions.

The most efficient choice for purchasers of the new pickup is the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine in High Fuel Economy (HFE) trim. This engine creates 305 horsepower and achieves 18 mpg city/ 25 mpg highway. Not choosing the HFE package and going with the base model instead will drop only 1 mpg for the city rating. Both models offer a 1 or 2 mpg advantage over the Ford F150 V-6 model.

Of course, the big news for the 2014 RAM 1500 is its new 8-speed automatic transmission option this year (when the HEMI V-8 engine is chosen). This transmission transforms the pickup into the most fuel-efficient V-8 on the market.
